- Do not take your own measurements.
- A second party must take measurements.
- Tie a string around the waistline for consistent measurements.
- Refer to diagrams for exact points of measurement.
- When measuring, stand tall with your muscles relaxed and feet together.
- Use a Flexible measuring take, such as plastic or cloth.
- Don’t trust your memory, be sure to write the measurements.
- Please measure yourself on your bare skin, not over clothes.
- When measuring, apply constant pressure to the tape (so it doesn’t sag) without pinching the skin.
- Measure under the same conditions each time, such as the same clothes or none at all.
- The total height is measured vertically between the top of the head and the soles of the person’s feet (without shoes) in an upright position, standing with feet together.
- Stand next to a wall, put a ruler horizontally on your head and mark at the point where the ruler reach the wall, measure the distance from the floor to the mark.
- Locate the protrusion of the iliac crest at the highest point of the pelvic girdle by palpating the sides of the body with the fingers above the hips. Then tie a string horizontally (perfectly level) around the waist at these points. Measure ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘H’ using this string.
- To facilitate taking measurements, tie a string horizontally around the waist at the highest point of the Iliac crest bones, then measure down the spine from the most protruding bone at the base of the neck (the 7th vertebrae) to the waistline.
- The vertical distance from the highest point of the iliac crest bone to the soles of the feet (when not wearing shoes), is measured along the individual’s side while maintaining an upright standing position.
The perpendicular measurement from the lowest point of the trunk to the soles of the feet (without shoes) is determined while the person stands straight with their feet shoulder-width apart and the body weight evenly distributed on both legs.
The chest measurement, taken while the person is standing, captures its maximum extension during normal breathing. The measurement is obtained by placing a measuring tape horizontally around the torso, passing over the scapula bones (shoulder blades), and just below the armpits.
The horizontal measurement along the chest, following the natural curve of the body, is taken from the point of attachment of the right arm to the point of attachment of the left arm. This measurement is obtained while keeping the arms relaxed and resting naturally at the person’s sides.
Locate the protrusion of the iliac crest at the highest point of the pelvic girdle by palpating the sides of the body with the fingers above the hips. Then tie a string horizontally (perfectly level) around the waist at these points. Measure ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘H’ using this string.
The waist circumference is measured horizontally around the waist, specifically above the highest point of each iliac crest bone. This measurement is taken while the person is standing, with normal breathing and a relaxed abdomen.
The horizontal measurement is taken around the hips, precisely at the widest part of the buttocks (the highest point when viewed from the side). If the hips are more prominent than the buttocks, the measurement is obtained at the most protruding part of the hips.
The measurement of the thigh taken horizontally at the point of maximum circumference, just below the trunk.
The maximum measurement detected by passing the centimeter tape horizontally around the knee, at the height of the center of the patella.
The circumference measured horizontally around the calf, at the point of maximum circumference.
The maximum distance measured along the back, which goes from the right humerus to the left humerus (the most protruding bones of the shoulder), measured in a straight line not following the curvature of the back.
